Small Vineyard Management II - Introduction to Vineyard Practices
Welcome to the Small Vineyard Management course series organized and operated by University of California Davis in conjunction with UC Cooperative Extension. This is the second course in a series of classes designed to help attendees understand the core fundamentals of grapevine physiology, function, and structure. Small Vineyard Management II, taking place at the Harry E. Jacob Research Vineyard & Facility in Oakville, California, provides a framework to better understand the needs of grapevines in the vineyard system and explore how the actions of the grower influence the necessary functions of a grapevine. Gain valuable information about topics such as grapevine anatomy, training vines, the importance of variety and rootstock, trellis design, and management of irrigation and fertilization; all delivered by our expert UC Cooperative Extension Advisors from across California.
This course has no prerequisites for attendees but completion of the Small Vineyard Management I course is recommended. This is a course designed to provide practical knowledge for all levels of vineyard professionals. Our instructors will cover each topic from the basics to more advanced, teaching the tested principles that are essential to successful vineyard management. Small Vineyard Management II is a two-day intensive in-person course that is divided into a day of in-class discussion and a day of field practicum. Our first day will focus on the theory and practices utilized in all grape vineyards in California. This day will cover vine anatomy and cultivars, management of tools and resources, and vineyard trellising and training methods. The field practicum for day 2 will focus on the in-field application of the information covered during the in-class portion of the course.
We hope you join us for this special course series offered through University of California. Registration is open and we look forward to seeing you on site.
