Cleopatra: Myth and Reality

Our view of Cleopatra, one of the most famous women to have ever lived, has been shaped in large part by Hollywood and by other romantic and fanciful representations.  This course is an attempt to separate the historically verified facts from the delightful but fictional impressions we have of this fascinating woman.  Ancient sources, coins, and statues will be used to present a truthful account of Cleopatra's life as a queen of Egypt and mistress of two of Rome's most powerful men.
