The Cahill Riparian Reserve several miles west of Winters forms the eastern tip of the Devil’s Gate Wildlands recreation area. This ecologically “intact” wildland protects river floodplains, oak woodlands and unique mineral seeps. Gain a scientific perspective on this important link to California’s river system on this one-mile hike with a UC Reserve manager.
This course is scheduled to take place in-person at the UC Cahill Reserve just over the Yolo/Napa county line. Driving directions and a parking map will be sent the week prior to class.
Students will need to bring their own water and snacks and be prepared to walk unassisted on rough, uneven trailheads. OLLI recommends dressing in layers to suite individual comfort levels and weather, bringing a hat, sunglasses, binoculars and camera. Wear sturdy, appropriate hiking or athletic shoes with good traction.
