Discover an iconic botanical garden including a curator’s discussion followed by the rich tapestry of cultures, history and art at the Blackhawk Museum in the East Bay. The Ruth Bancroft Garden features an outstanding collection of climate resilient plants from around the globe, beautifully arranged with California native trees and shrubs. We’ll spend the cooler morning touring the garden, followed by a lecture on its history and plant collection by the Garden Director.
After a no-host lunch, we’ll visit the Blackhawk Museum with its five distinct galleries, including the Art of Africa collection, Into China, which includes fine, handcrafted masterpieces from China’s past and present. The museum is also home to the World of Nature gallery, the Spirit of the Old West and a superlative collection of restored vintage automobiles.
NOTE: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a sweater if you are sensitive to air conditioning on the bus or in the museum. You may wish to bring a hat and wear sun block during the morning tour of the garden. There will be several restaurants to choose from during our no-host lunch break at Blackhawk Plaza, adjacent to the museum.
Course fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and includes admission and lecture fees at Bancroft Garden, entry and guided docent tour at Blackhawk museum premium and luxury motor-coach transport from Davis. Parking and bus pick-up location will be emailed one week in advance of trip. OLLI membership is not required to participate.
