Hundreds of climate action plans (CAPs) or sustainability plans have been adopted by cities and counties in California over the past decade. Most of these CAPs are stand-alone documents that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and/or address climate adaptation. However, a growing number of communities are considering developing or updating a CAP as part of their general plan or other plans. This integrated planning approach is providing a number of key streamlining, monitoring and implementation benefits and helps to harmonize climate action with other community planning goals. This course will provide participants with an understanding of how to integrate the components of a CAP into existing plans based on recent case studies and the benefits of taking an integrated CAP approach.
