Environmental Policymaking in the Political Context

This course is for public-sector professionals who exercise a role in community engagement, stakeholder outreach, external affairs, or any other capacity where political activities seek to influence the development or implementation of environmental policy. 

Tailored to the wide variety of environmental policy subjects, at state, regional, and local levels, this course trains public-sector professionals to:

  •  Generate informational value from their interactions with advocates,
  •  Understand the practices, field, and influences driving the products of advocacy, and
  •  Systemically empower underrepresented constituencies in policymaking processes

Students will learn techniques in how to:

  • Facilitate results-driven collaboration and consensus-driven negotiation, 
  • Arrange and conduct modes of stakeholder engagement that are inclusive, accountable, and knowledge-generating, and
  • Establish, build, evaluate, and utilize relationships of trust with stakeholders and advocates
